The Department named “Dipartimento di Medicina Della Procreazione e dell’Etá Evolutiva, Università degli Studi Pisa” is composed by five units:
Clinica Pediatrica Clinica di Neuropsichiatria e Psicopedagogia dell’etá Infantile Clinica Ostetrica e Ginecologica Unitá Operativa di Andrologia Unitá Operativa di Neonatalogia The Director of the Department is Prof. Pierantonio Macchia, who is also the director of the “Clinica Pediatrica”. The Clinics directly involved in the WOMAN project is the Clinica Ostetrica e Ginecologica whose Director is Prof. Andrea Riccardo Genazzani. The staff of the Clininics of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Pisa is constituted by Prof. Andrea Riccardo Genazzani, Full Professor, Director and Chief, 6 Associate Professors, 14 Assistant Professors, 20 Midwives, 12 Registered Nurses, 23 Generic Nurses The Clinic is linked to the National Health Service and thus provide health care for the female population of the region. The department provide inpatient assistance, with day-hospital services, and outpatient clinic for gynaecology, oncology, obstetrics, contraception, menopause, gynaecological and adolescent endocrinology, and services for both obstetrics and gynaecological ultrasounds, colposcopy, hysteroscopy, bone densitometry. In addition as a University Department there are active teaching programs for students and residents in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, as well as a School for Midwives.

The Research programs are focused on
1. Biology of the menopause and perimenopausal years
2. Osteoporosis screening and prevention
3. Physiopathology of Reproduction
4. Gynaecological Oncology
5. Perinatology

The Clinic has different collaborative Research programs with both Italian centres (Departments of Pathology, Pediatry an Immunology of the University of Modena and the Clinic of Obst. and Gyn of the Universities of Napoli, Torino, Catania, Milano, Firenze, Bari and others) and International universities (Gustave Russey (FR), Departments of: Gynaecology of Beer-Sheva (ISR), Vien (AU), Helsinki (FIN), Reading (UK), Tessalonico (GR), Santiago (Cile), New York (USA), Mount Sinai Med (USA)., Chicago (USA), San Diego (USA) and La Jolla (USA)).

Department Instruments : Equipments of the Endocrine Laboratory Unit, 25 Personal Computers, 4 Ultrasonographers, 3 Bone Densitometers ( 1 total body DEXA, 2 ustrasound devices),

Scientific Publications : The Department staff published over 300 publications in peer reviewed journals including Journal Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Endocrinology, Maturitas, Menopause, Osteoporosis International, Gynecological Endocrinology, Human Reproduction, American Journal of Physiology, Contraception, J Phychosom Obstet Gynecol.
