The University of Naples "Federico II", one of the oldest Universities in Europe, is the largest University of Southern Italy.
Our Department represents one of the most important Clinical Centres for Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Southern Italy, with more than 5.000 admissions and 3.000 deliveries every year.
Highly specialistic services for high risk pregnancy management, fetal ultrasonography, urogynecology, gynecological endoscopy, sterility treatment and gynaecological oncology are also available for the patients.
From the academical point of view, we train every year more than 250 Medical Students, 50 Specializing Doctors and 70 Midwives Students.
In 1989 a new menopause outpatient Clinic was started, where, at present, 2000 new patients are seen every year. From the experience of this Clinic we begun a series of researches in the fields of menopause and osteoporosis, participating also to many large multicentre clinical trials. In the last few years, we have started a new avenue of investigations on the effects of postmenopausal hypoestrogenism on body mass composition.
Our Department actively participated to the WOMAN project from 1998 to 2000.
