Dr. Alessandra Graziottin
The Center H.San Raffaele Resnati is also equipped with all the other medical specialties, on request and appointment; with a laboratory for all the blood analysis; a radiologic center; and services of uroandrology, of physiotherapy and of natural medicine.
The anatomopathologic service in shared with the main hospital, H.San Raffaele.
The twin Center H.San Raffaele Respighi is equipped with the Bone densitometry and a breast Unit, with mammograph, ecograph and possibility of directed breast biopsies on site.
Our team is involved in clinical, teaching and educational activities.
a) Clinical activity in the menopause
The team dedicates a comprehensive attention to women facing the menopause, with special attention to couples’ dynamics and issues. Women with premature or iatrogenic menopause, mostly after cancer treatment, attend the center, which is credited of paying special attention to premature menopause and its biological, psychological and relational correlates
The first consultation and examination is usually performed by Dr. Graziottin, comprehensive of routine full physical examination (Thyroid, breast, liver, plus gynaecologic evaluation, blood pressure) with Pap-smear, endometrial cytology, colposcopy etc when indicated
If indicated, and if the woman hasn’t already undergone the specific examination before consulting, she will request further examinations: transvaginal echography and isteroscopy, which are usually performed by Dr. Bassanino, mammography and bone densitometry.
Dr. Mombelli consults women complaining of medium-severe affective disorders (depression and anxiety), of sleep disorders, of personality problems and psychosexual problems where the psychodynamic aetiology appear to be prominent. He will also consult couples when relational issues are in play.
Dr Micheletti performs individual psychotherapies, when indicated
Dr Mercuri is further specialized in skin aging: an increasing number of women appreciate the possibility of having a qualified dermatologic support in the menopausal team
Dr. Ferrari has a special interest on the effect of hormonal loss on the eye, on lachrymal secretion and overall eye well-being. Women are referred to him when the complaint of dry eye, reduced lachrymal secretion, intolerance to lenses is complained during and after the menopause.
According to the individual needs and preferences, women are offered active healthier life styles promotion and/or a psychodynamic help to individual or couples, when menopausal transition is difficult to cope with, particularly in premature or iatrogenic menopauses. Special attention is dedicated to Quality of Life issues, inclusive of quality of personal and sexual life. Other specialist’s consultations are recommended when indicated.
Hormonal Replacement Therapy, local and/or systemic, is offered when indicated. Thanks to this comprehensive approach, women’s satisfaction and compliance are very high.
b) teaching activities
Dr. Graziottin, Dr. Mombelli and Dr. Micheletti are extremely active in teaching on the menopause, and its biological and psychodynamic correlates. Specific courses are offered two-three times a year to family physicians of Milan and nearest Provinces.
They are also teachers at the Post-graduate course on Sexual medicine for Gynaecologist at the University of Florence, of which Dr. Graziottin is Co-director.
Dr. Graziottin is also very active abroad in international meetings and courses on the menopause (she is currently member – for the second term - of the Board of Directors of the European Society of Menopause and Andropause (EMAS) (2000- )
c) educational activities
Dr. Graziottin is regular columnist of weekly women’s and monthly health magazines; and of regional newspapers (Network Sviluppo Quotidiani). She is also frequent guest on radio and TV programs on women’s health issues, with special focus on menopausal issues
