Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology - VU University Medical Center

Prof.dr Peter Kenemans
Dr. Marius Jan van der Mooren

The VU University Medical Center is the teaching hospital of the Vrije Universiteit. The most important task of the hospital is patient care. Besides, scientific research is being done so that patients can have better care in the future. In the VU hospital patient care means striving for a high standard of personal attention for the patient, a short waiting time and giving accurate information. Doctors, nurses and medical specialists are being trained in the VU hospital. Therefore you will meet many different people in the outpatients department and in the hospital. It is likely you will meet 'co-assistenten', medical students serving their internship in the hospital. There are also 'arts-assistenten', qualified doctors training to become specialists. Of course there are (student) nurses, administrative assistants, ultra sound scanning assistants, CTG-assistants (biometrists trained in foetal heart monitoring, making cardiotachographs), dietary consultants and sometimes scientific researchers. They all belong to the staff of the obstetrics and gynaecology department and work at the outpatients department and/or the hospital.
